Privacy Policy

Beanie ("we", "us", or "our") is a free, browser-based multiplayer card game available at playbeanie.com. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Beanie is designed to collect as little information as possible. Specifically:

• Display name. When you join a game room, you enter a name of your choosing. This name is shared with other players in the same room only for the duration of that game session. It is not stored after the game ends.
• Room codes. Four-letter room codes are generated temporarily to connect players. These are discarded once all players leave the room.
• Game state. Live game data (cards, scores, turns) is held in memory on our server for the duration of a session and is not persisted to a database.
• Device preferences. We may store a mute/sound preference locally on your device using your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.

We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment information, or any other personally identifying information.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not require account registration.
• We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to third parties.
• We do not collect precise location data.
• We do not collect device identifiers beyond standard web server logs.

3. Server Logs

Our hosting provider (Railway) may automatically collect standard server log data, including IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, and timestamps. This information is used solely for security monitoring and diagnosing technical issues. It is not used to identify individual users and is retained only for a short period in line with standard hosting practices.

4. Cookies

Beanie does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Your browser's local storage may be used to remember your sound preference between sessions. If you use the Ko-fi support link, Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies to that interaction.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Railway — server hosting. See Railway's Privacy Policy.
• Netlify — website hosting. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
• Ko-fi — optional donations. See Ko-fi's Privacy Policy.
• Google Fonts — typeface delivery. See Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Children's Privacy

Beanie is a family-friendly card game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we do not collect any personal information from any user, no special handling is required. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

7. Data Retention

Because we do not persist game session data beyond the life of a session, there is no personal data stored on our servers to retain or delete. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for a limited period for security purposes only.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law (including GDPR and UK GDPR) to access, rectify, or erase personal data we hold about you. Because we hold no personally identifying data, there is nothing to access or delete. If you have any concerns, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Beanie after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
